ART IMMERSION DAY
Up to four students in seventh or eighth grade are selected from each participating district to attend Arts Immersion Day on December 1, 2015 . Students watch a play, and then participate in workshops related to the arts. Contact program coordinator Chelli Taylor with any questions.
SOUTHERN LAKES ANTHOLOGY ART CONTEST
Each year, students in participating districts can submit black and white artwork, cartoons, or illustrations that accompany writing. Every spring, SLALN members select a theme for the following year's anthology. The theme for 2015-2016 is "Anything But Ordinary". The word "expressions" may not be used in the title. Entry deadlines are set by each school's gifted and talented coordinators. The top 24 submissions from each district are judged at a Whitewater TAG meeting in January. This year's judging day is Tuesday, January 26, 2016. The snow date is Wednesday, January 27, 2016. The entries are scored using a rubric, and the best are chosen to be included in the anthology. The published artists are invited to a recognition ceremony held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the Young Auditorium where they receive a complimentary copy of the anthology. Contact program coordinator Amy Gee with any questions.
TOUCH OF RED
Talented artists from participating high schools are invited to display their favorite artwork in the lobby of the Young Auditorium before the Southern Lakes Anthology recognition ceremony. The artists are able to discuss their artwork with the attendees. They are also recognized during the ceremony. Contact program coordinator Chelli Taylor with any questions.
